Novak Sanitary Service: Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Reduce, reuse and recycle is a common saying we all recognize. It’s important for recycling to become an everyday occurrence. Recycling saves resources and energy overall, but remembering to reduce and reuse is equally important as your recycling projects.

Reusing is as important as recycling and also saves money in the long run. Reusing items which would normally be considered trash helps eliminate waste and also benefits your household and pocketbook:

• Glass jars can be used as glassware, candle holders, leftovers, or as a holding jar for dry goods
• Reuse dryer sheets to freshen up drawers or luggage
• Wash plastic baggies and reuse when possible
• Use old Christmas cards as Christmas tags
• Stuff wet shoes with newspaper overnight to soak and deodorize
• If you choose to use plastic bags at the store, reuse them as liners in your trash bins rather than purchasing new bags

Everyday items can easily be reused.  Eggshells can be used as seed starters.

Garbage and recycling company Novak Sanitary Service, encourages our customers to reduce waste by limiting the amount of trash you go through every week. When you reduce in the first place, you don’t have to worry about recycling or wasting it in the long run. Plan ahead and be more constructive in your personal waste management efforts. If you think this may be a struggle, try these few ideas to get your waste reduction process on the move:

• Use both sides of paper when writing or printing
• Buy fruits and vegetables without packaging
• Instead of using bags at the store, purchase or make cloth bags that may be continuously reused
• Call 1-888-5-OPT-OUT to reduce credit card junk mail
• Use two-way or send and return envelopes
• Make your own cleaning supplies using lemons, vinegar, baking soda or rubbing alcohol

Once the efforts to reduce waste and reduce what is left are exhausted, recycling is the next step. Many items are considered recyclable today and recycling projects can be fun and beneficial. Consider recycling:

• Cardboard
• Paper Waste
• Plastic
• Pop Cans
• Milk Jugs
• Soda Bottles
• Glass

The all too common saying “reduce, reuse, and recycle” is slowly becoming a cliché. Reducing the amount that is consumed, reusing whatever is possible, and recycling what is left over are steps towards decreasing the carbon footprint we are leaving behind for future generations.
