Dispose of your Christmas tree safely and efficiently

Christmas season is over for most people and now it’s time to dispose of your tree. Pine trees kept for too long will begin to dry out can become a serious fire hazard.

They can also start to lose their needles, making a big mess all over your living room floor.

The first step is to remove any lights and ornaments from the tree. Lights that are not LED give off heat and increase the fire hazard exponentially. Once the tree is stripped of all its decorations, you can take it to a temporary storing place – a garage or backyard will do.

Now that the tree is safely removed from the home, you can schedule a pick-up time with your local garbage service. Novak Sanitary Service of Sioux Falls offers this pick-up service for Sioux Falls and its surrounding service area. To schedule a pick-up, call Novak Sanitary at (605) 338-7126.

You can also elect to drop-off the tree yourself. There are only two Christmas tree drop-off sites near or within Sioux Falls:

•    301 North Lyons Boulevard (located just west of the Sioux Empire Fairgrounds)
•    Sioux Falls Regional Landfill located five miles west of Sioux Falls on 41st Street.

The drop off will run from December 26th through mid-January. Both locations are open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.
Residential drop-offs are free of charge however, ‘large’ loads and commercial loads will not be accepted.

Novak Sanitary Service is thankful for the customers they provide recycling, trash removal and shredding services to. If you are looking for a sanitation provider, visit our website or call to request a waste container.
