Get to Know Us
Novak Sanitary Services began its journey in 1965 in greater Sioux Falls, SD, as a small residential garbage collection company with just one truck and one employee. By 1976, with the support of additional family members, the company expanded its reach, serving more residential customers across South Dakota.
In the mid-1980s, Novak ventured into the commercial waste management sector by acquiring two commercial companies. This growth continued in 1994 when Novak entered the construction waste and recycling industry, offering builders reliable service with roll-off trucks and containers.
Recognizing a growing need in the 1990s, Novak launched the Dakota Data Shred division to help local banks, offices, medical facilities, and residents securely destroy documents and recycle office paper.
Today, more than 60 years later, Novak Sanitary Services stands as one of the Midwest's largest full-service waste management companies. With a dedicated team of 95 employees, Novak proudly serves 22,000 customers across Lincoln, McCook, Minnehaha, and Turner Counties in Southeast South Dakota.

Every year, Novak employees and vendors come together to bring joy and lasting memories to children at the Sioux Falls Children's Home Society by purchasing and assembling bicycles. This annual tradition is about more than just giving gifts—it’s about creating moments of happiness and connection that these children can cherish for years to come.
In 2018, we were proud to build memories for over 100 kids in our community, providing them not only with bicycles but also with the excitement and freedom that comes with riding one. This initiative reflects our commitment to making a meaningful difference in the lives of local children, and it’s a tradition we look forward to continuing for many years to come.
