A GUIDE TO THE BASICS

Recycling from commercial businesses still need to be sorted and placed in
separate containers. The following material can be recycled at this time.

White Paper
Paper needs to be cleaned to be recycled. Office and computer paper, junk mail, greeting cards and sticky notes are acceptable paper items.

Metals
In general, rinse out metal cans to eliminate odor and bacteria in your recycling cart. Don’t worry about the labels. Flatten them if you need to make more space.

Aluminum and tin cans:
They are not allowed in the landfill. Tin cans, which actually are steel cans, include soup, sardine and coffee cans. Aluminum and tin can be mixed with plastics in one cart.

Plastics
In general, you will find the identifying numbers on the bottom of the container. No. 1 through No. 7: City ordinance does not allow these plastics in the landfill. The number of the plastic is usually stamped on the bottom of the containers. These containers include milk jugs, butter and margarine containers, pop and water bottles, and detergent bottles. These may be mixed in with tin and aluminum cans.

Plastic Grocery Bags: These and other plastic bags can be placed with your plastic bottles, tin and aluminum cans.

Newspaper: Papers, including glossy inserts, are not allowed in the landfill. Novak Sanitary Service will pick them up for recycling. They must be dry.

Magazines: Novak Sanitary will also pick up magazines and catalogs; which may be mixed with newspapers

Phone Books: Phonebooks may be recycled also and mixed with newspapers, magazines and catalogs.

Cardboard: Cardboard is banned from the landfill, and must be recycled. Corrugated cardboard has ripples in-between the layers of the box. Examples of this are packing and moving boxes and boxes large items come packed in.
