Where should I set my garbage & recycling containers?
The garbage and recycling needs to be set out visible from the street, but must be with in 5 feet of your house or garage. Please do not set it along the sidewalk or curb; it is against the city ordinance.
What time should I have our garbage & recycling containers out?
All garbage and recycling should be set out by 6:00am on the day of collection.
Do you recycle glass?
Glass is accepted in Residential single stream recycling only at this time.
What do I do with paint & chemicals?
Novak can dispose of any paint cans that are either empty or in which the paint is completely hardened. Otherwise, paint and hazardous waste need to be taken to the Sioux Falls Hazardous Waste site. See here for more information.
Do you recycle electronics?
We do pick up electronics. Please call to schedule a pickup, and or inquire about the fees for this service.
How often is recycling picked up?
Commercial recycling is picked up Monday through Friday as often as the customer needs. Residential recycling is picked up every other week on the same day as trash. Magnets are supplied to all of our residential customers marking the days of pickup.
Do you supply yard waste containers?
Our yard waste service runs April – November. We do have a 95gallon yard waste cart we will provide for customers on the weekly yard waste route.
How should I prepare my grass clippings?
Yard waste consists of grass and leaves only. If signed up for the weekly service, the clippings can be thrown into the yard waste cart loose. If using the yard waste bag system, please throw the clippings into the bags and secure them tight. Branches, shrubs, garden rubbish, etc are all considered trash.
How can I get my grass clippings picked up?
If on the weekly route, the yard waste cart is on a route and will be dumped on the same day as the trash every week. If using the bag system, Novak must be called at least one day prior to trash service to schedule the bags to be picked up.
Do you take credit cards? Is there a fee? Which cards do you accept?
We proudly accept Visa, and Master card for your convenience. There is no fee for this service and it only takes a few minutes on the phone.
Where are you located?
Our office is located right off Marion Road, at the 12th St and Marion Road intersection. Head north on Marion Road to 8th street and turn east. Follow the road to the dead end.
Where is the landfill and what is the phone number?
The landfill is located 5 miles west of town on 41st street on the south side of the highway. The landfill phone number is 526-6636.
What if I have extra garbage or need a special pickup?
Extra garbage and special pickup will be taken for a small additional fee. Just call our office the day before trash service to schedule the extras and/or special pickup to be taken. Extras and special pickups will be left unless Novak has received a phone call granting permission to take them. Please call for scheduling.
How do we dispose of larger items such as freezers, or refrigerators? Is there any charge?
Larger items will be picked up the same as any extras or special pickups. There is an additional cost, so please call to get the cost of a specific item, as the prices vary.
What are your office hours?
Office hours are Monday – Friday from 7:00am – 5:00pm. For your convenience we are also open Saturdays from 8:00am – 12:00pm.
What is your billing cycle?
Commercial customers are billed on a monthly basis. Residential customers are billed quarterly. Monthly billing is offered if preferred.

What is the fuel and material surcharge for?
The basic price our company charges covers operating costs—labor, supplies, insurance, energy, etc.—plus a profit. The fuel surcharge is needed to pay for the marginal increase in costs due only to the higher cost of diesel fuel and other petroleum based products while oil prices are very unstable.
