Kieffer Cares Trash Can Open

What do garbage bins, golf greens, and children have in common? They were all major players in the first ever Kieffer Cares Trash Can Open earlier this month!

Kieffer Sanitation of Rapid City hosted an 18-hole Trash Can Open to raise money for the Black Hills Children’s Home. This first time event was open to the public and spearheaded by Waste Connections Regional Manager Fred Folsom, Kieffer Sanitation, with help from Waste Connections Divisional Vice President Bob Novak, Novak Sanitary Services in Sioux Falls.

Goaled to raise $12,000 in proceeds, the Kieffer Cares Trash Can Open scored big, raising a whopping $15,000! Even more impressive, what drove the donations past that initial goal was the generosity of participants in the form of contributions on the course.

The event grew from Folsom’s vision to do an open - he’d seen another Waste Connections branch host one and was impressed with how fun and well executed the event was. Once the initial idea was determined, Novak suggested they center the event around the Black Hills Children’s Home and Folsom agreed.
